Applications Now Being Accepted for Leadership Mountain View!

Since 1990, Leadership Mountain View has been an important training ground for community leaders. Each year up to 32 participants are selected to attend the 9 full days and one half day seminar that make up the Leadership Mountain View course.

How does city government work? How does Mountain View fit into the regional picture? What are the important issues facing the local education ad public safety systems? What are the needs in our area's safety net of health and human services? How can citizens make a difference?

Each class highlights a Leadership Skill through the eyes of a Community theme. It is with the collaboration of these two concepts: Leadership and Community that Leadership Mountain View provides knowledge of the community, enables relationships between people and organizations and builds leadership skills.

Saving Public Water

What runs hot and cold? In October, LMV members met with City Manager Kevin Duggan and the city’s Public Work Department to learn how the city manages its public resources, including the 11 million gallons of water used by Mountain View residents and commercial businesses each day.

Public Works Director Cathy Lazarus informed the class that bottled water is not only costly for the consumer but may not be as regulated as the municipal water that comes from your faucet, which is frequently and rigorously tested. It may not taste as good as bottled, but it’s cheaper than buying bottled, and saves space in our landfills.

Cathy also mentioned that soon, Mountain View residents will be required to make further efforts to reduce their water usage to help the city make up for water shortfalls due to state-wide drought.

To learn more about how to conserve water, you can schedule a visit with a water surveyor, who will to come  to your home or apartment to review your water usage, provide free low-flow showerheads and aerators (if needed) and suggest other ways for you to save water. Call (800) 548-1882 for more info.

Or if you’d like to check out Mountain View’s current restrictions on water, visit Public Works website.
