Community Topic: “Our City”

Leadership Theme:

Host: City Hall and Mountain View Library

Objectives:

  1.  The class will learn about their city and area representatives as well as tour some of the facilities.

  2.  The class will interact with city leaders via lively Q&A.

Friday, November 19

Community Topic: “Our Business”

Leadership Theme: “Creating a Shared Vision”

Host: TBD

Objectives:

  1. The class will learn and explore various ways in which area businesses align their actions with shared values.

  2. The class will learn about the impact of local businesses that speak with conviction about meaning of work and how this effects their bottom line.

  3. Businesses will share with the class how undertaking a model of corporate social responsibility impacts them financially.

 

Friday, December 10

Community Topic: “Health & Human Services”

Leadership Theme: “Ethics, Compassion and Respect”

Host: El Camino Hospital

Objectives:

  1. The class will learn how local health and human service organizations inspire and enlist others.

  2. The class will explore the roles of ethics and compassion in heath and human services.

  3. The class will discuss the importance of treating others with dignity and respect as well as introduce the Platinum Rule.

Community Topic: “Diversity”

Leadership Theme: “Inspiring a Shared Vision”

Objectives:

  1. The class will learn about the value of many kinds of diversity (personality, race, culture, ability, etc) both within the smaller teams and in the broader community.

  2. Class members will learn the challenges of interacting with people unlike themselves, and also the similarities, common aspirations and opportunities for growth.

  3. The class will learn about local organizations focused on empowering and enabling diverse cultures and how to inspire a shared vision.

 

Friday, February 11

Community Topic: “Education”

Leadership Theme: “Strengthening others”

Host: Mountain View Whisman School District

Objectives:

  1. The class will learn ways that education can strengthen and enable others, both in the classroom and elsewhere in life.

  2. The class will experience successes, problems, and innovative ideas in our local schools and learning environments.

Community Topic: “Creativity”

Leadership Theme: “Leading outside the box”

Hosts: Community School of Music and Arts (CSMA) and KMVT-15 Community Television

Objectives:

  1. The class will learn the value of taking risks and the importance of creativity to problem solving.

  2. The class will learn how local organizations in the arts or media engage in creative risk-taking, and how they interact with the broader community.

  3. The class will learn the strengths and limitations of using the various arts and media to communicate.

  1. The class will learn conflict management techniques to foster collaboration and build trust.

  2. The class will understand how local public safety agencies operate, how they manage conflict and how they enable others to act.
